Yay for another blogger award nomination!

jenv t corres wall nominated for blogger recognition award

This time, I have That Med Kid to thank for nominating me. A med student (hence the name of her blog), That Med Kid has a self-published book entitled “The Danger of Not Trying.” She created the book using Microsoft Word. She donated all the profits to Rejoice Foundation, an HIV foundation located in Northern Thailand. The foundation inspired her to take Medicine.

How Jenv T Corre’s Wall started

Something happened in the office; I learned that my subordinates have been talking me behind my back for quite a while. They said nasty things about me and our other colleagues. I discovered it unintentionally. My heart was broken so bad that I need to have an outlet otherwise I’ll burst into God knows what.

That even led me to write about millennials (and a series of Facebook updates that shows how immature I am). I even had a disclaimer that the post was fueled by angst. No regrets. Haha.

Back then, however, I always wanted to start a blog—a blog that I would take seriously. I started some blogs from 2011 to 2015, but none of them received the attention they deserved. Some blogs didn’t even have a single post in them. Oops…

I thought: If I am going to put my name on that blog would I take it seriously? You know the answer. I cannot afford to abandon this blog because I might not be able to use the same blog name in the future when I decided to blog again should I devoured into oblivion once more.

Okay, I suck at naming a blog. At work, we usually create WordPress and Blogspot blogs for each of our clients, but the blog naming task is given to someone else. 😆

I just included the word ‘Wall’ because this blog will be my fortress, my sanctuary, my reality. Jenv T Corre’s Wall is my online hub where I can say all the things I long to say, share and overshare.

Advice for new bloggers

My blog is not perfect—far from it actually. However, I learned a thing or two about blogging that I want to share with all of you. Pardon if these are too technical.

  • Test the waters first

Are you sure that blogging is for you? Have you heard of the story about this girl who wants to have a puppy? Her parents are very hesitant to give in to her wish because of the weight of responsibility involved. What they did was they buy the girl a leash and let her pretend to walk the dog every morning. If she could do this for a month without fail, they will buy her a puppy. She gave up on the third day.

I guess you haven’t heard of it because I just made it up. 😉 But you get it, right? If blogging is for you, you won’t give up on the third post. So don’t buy any hosting plan yet. Check the free plan first, write a few posts and observe it for a couple of months. If you are able to write consistently and the traction is good, then you are good to go. If you are struggling what to write about and what to write about next, you should have done the next one.

  • Choose a niche and sub-niche

A plethora of mommy blogs proliferate the blogosphere, so why another mommy blog? Everyday hundreds to thousands of new blog are created, how will I stand out? These two questions bugged me when I finally decided to blog again. The third question was: Should I care? Hehe.

So what if there are millions of mommy bloggers out there? I can still choose to be one and more. This is where the sub-niche comes into play. I asked myself: What is that one thing that I know about that’s also share-worthy? Aside from being a wife and mom, I grew up in Antipolo. I know the place by heart. And there are no bloggers from Antipolo that I am aware of. So there is my sub-niche people.

  • Familiarize yourself with the platform

I already mentioned WordPress and Blogspot. While I cannot tell you which is better, I can suggest you go over the dashboard and explore each feature and layout. Remove the lorem ipsums and this is a text widgets.

You created a blog—own it! And one way of doing so is writing from the heart.

  • Always write from the heart

You can never go wrong with writing if you write from the heart. Pour your soul into it. Need I say more about this?
