Removing stains from dress shirts is inevitable if ever it occurred. Several items can stain a dress shirt. Nevertheless, there are also specific ways of removing such a stain.

Some of the most common stains that ruin the perfect condition of dress shirts and removal tips are discussed accordingly.

How do you get a stain out of a dress shirt?

Armpit stains

One of the most unsightly stains is armpit stains, especially on white or off-white dress shirts. There are specific ways to remove armpit stains, and the good news is that the materials can be found inside the kitchen. These are baking soda, vodka, and vinegar.

First, you have to make a paste solution by mixing four tablespoons of baking soda with 1/4 cup of water. Scrub the paste directly onto the stain using an old fingernail brush or toothbrush. Leave it for an hour before washing it. Repeat the process if needed.

Second, you will also have to make a vodka solution by mixing equal parts of vodka and water. Put the solution in the sprayer bottle and spray the solution onto the stain before washing it. It is best to leave it for 15 to 30 minutes.

Third, you have to soak the shirt in vinegar for about 15 to 30 minutes before washing the shirt.

Sweat stains

Yet another nasty stain is sweat stains. If you want to know how to remove sweat stains, it would be best to know the type of material the dress shirt is made from.

It is advisable to use ammonia to remove sweat stains on delicate fibers, including silk, wool, and rayon. Use a sponge (or absorbent pad) in applying light strokes away from the center of the stain. The sponge will pick up the stain. Hence there might be a need to change the sponge eventually, especially if the stain is widespread.

It is ideal to use enzyme presoak to remove sweat stains from washable fibers like cotton and linen. The product must be used based on the package direction. Wash the shirt after presoaking. For older stains, the stained area must be soaked in vinegar before washing the shirt. If you worry about the fading of the color, you have to stretch the stained area while applying ammonia.

Ring around the collar

Another stubborn stain is the ring around the collar. Not all people know how to remove collar stains. Regardless of the material, though, you may use any brand of lanolin hand cleaner in removing the ring around the collar.

After purchasing the cleaner:

  1. Transfer the contents into a bottle sprayer.
  2. Spray the cleaner generously onto the collar stains.
  3. Leave the shirt for 10 to 15 minutes or more if the stain is more profound.
  4. Wash the shirt afterward.

Another ring around the collar stain removal option is non-chlorine oxygenated bleach.

The premise is that the stain removal process must be appropriate for the nature and type of stain and that of the material of the dress shirt.
